10: Can I change my LPA?
Once a LPA is registered you there are very limited changes that can be made. This post provides a summary of the permitted changes which can be made to a Lasting Power of Attorney.
Permitted changes are:
- updating the name or address of an attorney or replacement attorney. This is done by writing to the OPG to tell them the new details. You will need to send evidence of a name change and your LPA.
- removing an attorney or replacement attorney. This can be done by partially revoking your LPA.
- removing an attorney or replacement attorney who has died. This is done by writing to the OPG to tell them. You will need to send a copy of the death certificate and your LPA.
The government website has full details of how to make these changes, including the words you need to use to partially revoke your LPA.
Otherwise, if you want to change an LPA, you will need to end it and put a new one in place (including paying the application fee again).
To end your LPA you need to send a ‘deed of revocation’ to the OPG. You can find the words you need to use on the government website.
